May Chong Art and Illustration

Artist Statement

May Chong is an artist specialising in illustrations in Liverpool. Having graduated with a Graphic Arts degree at John Moores University. May is a member of SOUP (a group of artists who all work together at the Tate Gallery in Liverpool). May has exhibited in a number of exhibitions in Merseyside as part of SOUP and also with other artists. May’s work is mainly illustrations in black and white and also in colour based on children’s books and architecture and wildlife theme using pen and ink. She likes exploring the fantasy/fairytale side to children’s book illustrations, the beauty of wildlife and nature and the history of architecture. May has taught art and design, graphics and fashion in secondary schools in Liverpool and Knowsley and has gained a MA in Artist Teacher from John Moores University. May has curated the 'Host' by SOUP exhibition at Tate Gallery as part of the Liverpool Independents Biennial 2012. More recently she participated in the Colonized exhibition in New York with members of SCI.
